Thematic Goal
Expanding access to quality learning, supporting teachers and school leaders, and strengthening education systems through the flagship Education Improvement Programme and other initiatives.
The Context
Education is a key driver of social and economic development, yet many children and young people in AKRSP’s programme areas face barriers to accessing quality learning opportunities. These challenges hinder the development of foundational skills, limit access to further education, and restrict meaningful contributions to their communities. While various agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) have been implementing education programmes, AKRSP leverages its deep-rooted presence in rural development to extend educational initiatives to underserved regions and strengthen existing interventions.
AKRSP plays a key role in facilitating AKDN initiatives by bridging gaps between the government, civil society, and communities to ensure every child’s right to quality education. Its interventions aim to equip girls, boys, and young adults with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values needed for lifelong learning and meaningful contributions to society.

Achievements & Impacts:
AKRSP focuses on community-related roles, complementing the efforts of the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKESP), and the Aga Khan University (AKU). This involves mobilising communities to support educational initiatives and fostering a collaborative environment. AKRSP provides school-based support through regular mentoring, identifies training needs and provides capacity-building training for teachers and educators with the technical support of AKU-IED’s Professional Development Centres (PDCs) and AKESP.
